I stood in a trench, riddled with fear
For the heartbeat of men, you could almost hear
The roar of tanks were loud and clear
The roar of tanks was very near
Inside the trenches we could not see
How the land would surely be
Craters and mines filled the plain
Not to mention the endless rain
Once we climbed the latter
Nothing else would matter
To the enemy, we would run
This war is nothing fun
But we all knew the time was close
That the enemy would spray us from our heads to our toes
